Amazon to pay a Rs 1 lakh fine for allowing the sale of substandard pressure cookers

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has fined ₹1 lakh on Amazon for selling pressure cookers that did not meet quality standards.

The CCPA also ordered Amazon to notify consumers of all 2,265 pressure cookers sold through its platform, recall the products and refund the buyers.

“Amazon has also been ordered to pay a fine of ₹1,00,000 for allowing the sale of pressure cookers in violation of the QCO (Quality Control Order) and violating consumer rights,” the CCPA order said.

A total of 2,265 non-compliant pressure cookers were found to have been sold through Amazon following the QCO notification. The total fee Amazon earned for selling such pressure cookers was ₹6,14,825.41.
