Tell us about the inception story of establishing a chocolate Company. What drove you here?

I have always had a passion for food. I initially started making chocolates with couverture when I was 21. Soon I learned about cacao beans, its roasting technique, and the process of making chocolate. Initially, it was just a hobby and even the now brand name MELT was just said like that when someone used to ask what is the name of the chocolate. Nothing was serious till 2019. In 2019, we registered it as a company & brand, and started off from there to build it as a brand and not just a hobby. We wanted it to be a healthy sweet treat and thus, we avoided using artificial flavoring, preservatives, refined sugar, and soy. A simple hobby was later conceived into a brand.

What products are on your list?

Currently, we have 3 Chocolates and 6 Nut butter on our list. We have 2 vegan chocolates, namely 72% Dark chocolate and 54% coconut milk chocolate. And our one more flavor is 48% Milk Chocolate which is not vegan but is soy-free, preservative-free, refined sugar-free, cruelty-free, and gluten-free.

Which business model are you practicing, online selling or store selling?

BeeTee’s Melt Chocolate,We are practicing both; online and in physical stores, but we profusely concentrate online.

What do you like and dislike about chocolate?

Chocolates are a great source of antioxidants and it contains many good sources of minerals and vitamins. One of the sweetest plant foods, the cocoa bean has a very unique taste and aroma and I don’t like altering it or masking its flavor by adding artificial flavors. But, what I don’t like about chocolates in India, is that for many years people have been allowed to believe it as just a sugar treat and not more than that. Making a good source of plant food into a sugar treat is not good as many chocolate manufacturers do this by removing all the cocoa butter from the cocoa beans and substituting it with the cheapest hydrogenated vegetable oil.

What are the potential chances of growth in the chocolate industry in India? How are you planning to expand your business in the near future?

The chocolate industry is already well-established in India but, it is reigned by only a few international players. But now, new doors have opened after COVID19 as people got inclined towards a healthy diet. Vegan chocolates are on-demand as people follow dairy-free diets. People are slowly understanding and changing towards healthy chocolates. Reaching out to all kinds of people is what we are focusing on. Few think since these chocolates are costly its meant only for a luxury set of people but, no these are healthier chocolates and each ingredient in the chocolate is of high quality and brought from the best of best places and that is the reason for the price, and it is not meant for luxury people only. We aim to take our chocolates to C category shops, and when we have our chocolates selling in C category shops then that will be our real success.
