Tejaswin shankar wins broze

Tejaswin Shankar, the Indian athlete, did himself proud on Wednesday by winning the bronze medal in the men’s high jump final at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with a height of 2.22 meters.

Shankar finished tied for first place in the men’s high jump with former world and CWG champion Donald Thomas of the Bahamas, but the Indian athlete prevailed as he committed fewer fouls.

In the countdown, the national record holder cleared 2.22 meters for third place. England’s Joel Clarke-Khan and Bahamas’ Donald Thomas also cleared 2.22m, but both took more than one effort, while Shankar only needed one.

In two attempts, Shankar (23) failed to soar higher than 2.25 meters. In his third and final attempt, he tried to win the silver medal at 2.28m but failed. Before Shankar, Bhim Singh had cleared 2.06m in 1970 Edinburgh to take first place for India in the men’s high jump category at the CWG.

With the best jump of 2.24m, Shankar placed sixth at the Gold Coast 2018. Shankar, whose inclusion in the Indian athletics team was ordered by the Delhi High Court, has a season’s best of 2.27m and a personal best of 2.29 meters.
